Absalmon Day American

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 704

The conjoined initials “AD” undoubtedly stand for Absalom Day, founder of the Day Pottery in Norwalk, Connecticut. The pottery specialized in slip-decorated wares, often with names and sayings. The green glaze and feathered letters and border seen here are among Day’s most sophisticated decorations.
