Potted Pansies

Henri Fantin-Latour French

Not on view

The simple motif of two pots of pansies, one behind and slightly to the right or left of the other, is one Fantin used in other compositions, including The Met's larger and more elaborate Still Life with Pansies of 1874 (66.194). Although this was an arrangement Fantin favored, he seems to have worked directly from life for each painting.
