From a book with title plate and twelve prints with portraits of emperors set in strapwork borders with grotesques, by Hans Vredeman de Vries. The first edition, published by Gerard de Jode ca. 1565-69, was titled "Icones Duedecim Caesarum Romanum". The second edition, printed by Robert Bruneau and published by Johannes Baptista Vrints in 1603, includes text by Pierre François Sweerts and verse by Joannes Bocchius and Balthasar Moretus, with letterpress text on in the margins above and below the plate and on the verso of each folio.
