Kosode Fragment

Japan

Not on view

In a popular story set on Tendaisan (Chinese, Tiantaishan), a holy mountain in southeast China, a lioness pushes her newborn cubs off a cliff near the Stone Bridge of Tendaisan in an effort to test their endurance. She will care for only those who survive. Perhaps this fragment shows a happy ending—the surviving cubs returning to their mother.
