Fragment of ovoid flask

Third Intermediate Period or later

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

This fragment comes from an ovoid flask with a narrow neck. The main image, executed in low relief, depicts a man using a pole to propel a skiff against a background of papyrus plants. Above this are three bands of floral imagery: rosettes, leaves, and Caerulea (waterlily/blue lotus) flowers.
