Relief of an attendant raising a necklace in front of a pole-like image

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 104

This fragment shows that rows of attendants (see 26.3.353-1 and 26.3.353-3) were not the only theme depicted in raised relief on the right hand wall of the passage into Neferu's tomb. In front of the remains of a woman holding a necklace, we see a polelike entity that seems to be topped by a wig, perhaps an abstracted, sacred image.
