Model Spear

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 112

This model spear, one of seven found with a model spear case (17.9.4), is made of wood, with a copper head that was merely slotted into the end of the shaft. A real spear, which would have been about the same length, would have had a flint or metal head and was meant for use in close-quarter combat. (See also 17.9.3.1-related.)
