Dayere

Iranian (Persian)

Not on view

A thin kidskin membrane stretches over a shallow wood and ivory frame. Small crotal bells, coins, and metal rings fastened inside the frame add a metallic jingle. The drum is held vertically in the left palm, leaving three fingers free to tap the head along with fingers, palm, and fist of the right hand. The drum is also struck against elbow, shoulder, and knee.
