This trophy updates the form of the loving cup, a two-handled ceremonial vessel based on ancient Greek drinking vessels (the kylix and kantharos) and used since ancient times to celebrate achievement. The stylized classical forms and ironic combination of costly and mock materials typifies Graves's version of post-modernism.
