Grisaille Lancet

French

On view at The Met Cloisters in Gallery 04

The dense pattern of strapwork, both in colorless and red glass, dominates the composition of these panels. The slender vine tendrils with buds but no apparent central stem are the lesser partner in the design.
The borders are thirteenth-century but are not original to the panels.
