Three Figures

French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 304

Bowing to the left with downcast eyes and downturned mouths, the three men apparently witness a sad scene, perhaps the burial of a saint or the death of the Virgin. They may have been fixed to a large reliquary or an altar.
