Large Boston Public Garden Sketchbook: The Huntington Avenue Streetcar

Maurice Brazil Prendergast American

Not on view

This charming depiction of a woman stepping off a departing streetcar and running across the tracks is one of forty-four sheets, all in the Robert Lehman Collection, from Prendergast's "Large Boston Public Garden Sketchbook." The drawings and watercolors of this now-dismantled sketchbook principally show the cheerful activities of elegantly attired women, who are seen riding bicycles, pushing prams, strolling with parasols, and resting on park benches.
