Molded Dish with Chrysanthemum Design

Japan

Not on view

This dish, with its sophisticated shape and complex design of a chrysanthemum flower seen from both the front and the back, exemplifies early porcelain in the Ko Kutani style, produced in the former Hizen domain. The Chinese character for good fortune (fuku in Japanese) marks the inside of the foot.
