Fragment of a Waster

Not on view

This fragment of an open vessel shows a gritty deposit on its glazed surfaces and an overfired glaze, most probably the results of an accident during firing. Its finding spot at a kiln site in Nishapur, further suggests that the object was considered a waster and never made it to the market. It may well have had an alternative use at the ceramic workshop, such as a stand or a separator during the manufacture of other ceramics.
