Candlestick

Not on view

Candlesticks in the shape of a truncated cone surmounted by a cylindrical shaft and a socket to accomodate a candle often flanked the mihrab in religious buildings. The same type was also used as house furnishing. The elegant inscription around the body is dedicated to a unnamed
Mamluk sultan.
