Brush Washer

China

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 200

The brush washer is dated to the early years of the reign of the Kangxi emperor based on an analysis of the style of the handwriting used for the six-character mark on the base. The Kangxi period is the only Qing-dynasty reign for which such precise analysis currently exists.
