Vessel in the Shape of a Female

Pakistan (Northwest Frontier Province)

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 234

This vessel, of indeterminate function, is a rare early example of female cult imagery. The form is not typical of early India and relates more closely to West Asian prototypes.
