The collection of ancient Persian, Arabic, and Indian folktales known as The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (or The Arabian Nights) gave European readers vivid glimpses into Islamic culture and introduced them to characters such as Aladdin and Ali Baba. The first European edition appeared in France in the eighteenth century. This popular British illustrated edition of 1865 was originally issued in weekly installments. This second volume of two includes a frontispiece, illustrated title page, 108 illustrations, pages numbered [i]-x, 402-822. Bound in boards covered with red textured cloth with gold stamping.
