Gunpowder Flask (清 火藥壺)

Chinese

Not on view

Most Qing gunpowder flasks are fairly plain and utilitarian containers made of wood, metal, or horn. This example is very unusual for its skillfully carved dragon heads and beautifully figured burl wood, which was often used in China to make fine furniture.
