Marble bowl

Cycladic

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 151

Handmade bowls such as this were among the most popular stone vessels in the Early Cycladic II period. Many examples with known provenance come from tombs and are often found in association with Cycladic figurines. The vessels were likely used in funerary rituals, possibly associated with the figurines.
