Terracotta Hadra hydria (water jar)

Greek, Ptolemaic, Cretan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 162

Most Hadra hydriai have painted decoration with vegetal elements such as wreaths and garlands. This vase is unusual because of the leaves in relief that have been applied to the body and neck.
