Manufactory Doccia Porcelain Manufactory Italian
Model attributed to Gaspero Bruschi Italian

Not on view

This porcelain figure is a much-reduced version of a famous antique marble housed in the Uffizi in Florence. The Ginori porcelain manufactory, located in Doccia, near Florence, produced a variety of sculptures of considerable scale derived from antique models; this ambitious program tested the technical possibilities of porcelain, which was a new medium in Europe at this time, and responded to the taste for all things classical.
