Table snuffbox

Manufactory Meissen Manufactory German

Not on view

A snuffbox of this size was placed on a table for use by a party of smokers, as illustrated on the inside of the lid. Painted in monochromatic purple, or en camaieu, this scene is based on an engraving of 1733 by Bernard Lépicié (1698–1755) after a composition by Jean-Baptiste Pater (1695–1736).
