Saint Bernardino of Siena

Fulvio Signorini

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 503

Bernardino, toothless and charismatic, was a reforming Franciscan friar and a preacher of great power. He holds his attribute, the name of Jesus, which was one of his props while preaching. Quickly canonized following his death, he became a patron saint of Siena. This bronze was formerly in the Church of San Francesco, Siena.
