Bureau tables of New York manufacture are rare in comparison to those from Massachusetts or Rhode Island. The majority have block fronts that show the influence of Massachusetts designs. They are distinguished by their square claw-and-ball feet. Curiously, the brass hinges on this bureau table are identical to those used by John Townsend on his Newport chests, such as 27.57.1.
