The Sharp Gallery displays paintings and sculpture by European artists working in the first half of the twentieth century. These painters of the avant-garde—among them Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Fernand Léger, and Umberto Boccioni—pioneered or continued working in such innovative movements as Cubism, Futurism, or Abstraction. Their choice of subject matter remained, however, rooted in still life and the human figure.
