Math and Geometry in Art—Half-Day Workshop Explore the relationship of mathematics to visual art in two- and three-dimensional forms from a variety of cultures and time periods, including objects in newly-opened galleries. Strategies for discussion and hands-on activities include proportion, pattern, projective geometry, and the analysis of composition.

Art Mornings (Kindergarten through Grade 5) Summer Semester (Open to Members and non-Members) Children's art programs for Members, beginning at the Family/Dual ($190) level, offer children the unique experience of learning about art and creating their own works in a studio setting or in the Museum's galleries.
Non-Members have the special opportunity to participate in these classes during the summer semester.
Art Mornings classes are designed to provide children with an opportunity to discover the Museum's collection and explore the processes of art making. All gallery visits will focus on visual art concepts: line, shape, color, pattern, texture, balance, and form. Activities will include painting, collage, sculpting, building, viewing works from the Museum's collection, and listening to related stories and fables.
If you are unable to enroll for the full semester, please join several classes.

Art Mornings for Families—At Home on Mount Olympus An adventure in art through conversation and sketching occurs on these weekday mornings for visitors ages five through twelve and their adult companions. Each day's theme focuses on art from a specific place. Tuesdays are devoted to African art; Wednesdays to art from the Americas; Thursdays to Asian art; and Fridays to art from the ancient world. Summer Intensive I: Art Study at the Met The history of art can be studied firsthand through masterpieces in the encyclopedic collection of the Metropolitan. With a Museum educator, study and discuss masterworks from ancient times to the present over the course of two weeks. Art Mornings Family Films Short films presented in one-hour screenings in conjunction with Art Mornings for Families. Each day's theme focuses on a specific area of the world. Tuesdays are devoted to African art; Wednesdays to art from the Americas; Thursdays to Asian art; and Fridays to art from the ancient world.A Greek Tragedy. Humorous animated tale of the sad dilapidation of an ancient temple. (6 min.) The Mischievous Hermes. Objects from the Louvre Museum in Paris are used to dramatize how Hermes, the son of Zeus and Maia, took his place amongst the gods of Mount Olympus. (13 min.) Orpheus and Eurydice. Uses puppet animation to tell the ancient Greek legend of the minstrel Orpheus and his descent into Hades in search of his lost bride Eurydice. (6 min.) El Primer Contacto con el Arte: Talleres Educativos para la Familia en Español—Mobiliario francés: ¿Cuál es su valor simbólico? El Departamento de Educación del Museo los invita a participar en el programa para la familia en español titulado El Primer Contacto con el Arte. Los talleres educativos van dirigidos a niños entre seis y doce años de edad, acompañados de un adulto. Cada viernes y sábado estará dedicado a un tema en particular, en una zona determinada del Museo. Los niños también tendrán la oportunidad de dibujar y participar en actividades didácticas.
