Erica Baum American
2009
Not on view
In Baum’s series Dog’s Ear, the act of turning down a page corner becomes a fruitful vein to tap into, with the reader’s act of remembering his or her place standing in for the kind of collective historical memory that books epitomize. The artist’s chance alignments create readymade poetry that can be read in multiple directions and configurations; the play of verbal and visual signs becomes the raw material of the work of art that is a carefully calibrated mix of chance and intention.
