Plate 1 of a series of designs for doors and mantel pieces. This design presents the title of a drapery on a plinth. On the top of the plinth is a woman drawing, a child holding a lamp to light her work and behind her, a rooster. On either side of the plinth are women. The one on the left is holding a board, the one on the right a ruler and a t-square. The women are probably personifications of architecture.
