Standing Nude

Elie Nadelman American, born Poland

Not on view

Late in his career, Nadelman cast numerous small plaster figures from molds. This one shows his ongoing interest in the sculpture of ancient Greece, particularly the terracotta figurines of the Hellenistic period. The figure's animated gesture recalls sculptures of the huntress-goddess Artemis, who often held a bow and arrow.
