Morteza Pourhossieni Iranian

Not on view

Part of a larger series, these three drawings reflect on the experience of serving in the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). The men in each drawing are identified by numbers and their faces are replaced by realistically rendered bullet holes creating a trompe l’oeil effect. This makes them unknown to the viewer – and yet, the camaraderie and humanity between them is nonetheless palpable. Pourhossieni, who lives in Iran, poignantly captures this dichotomy between intimacy and anonymity.
