Reprint of a wood engraving originally published in journal such as Harper's Weekly ca. 1868. Refers to effort in 1868 by Benjamin Franklin Wade (1821–1878), leading other Radical Republicans, to impeach President Andrew Johnson and suppress his Reconstruction policies. As president of the Senate Wade was next in line to succeed to the Presidency.
