Candelabra Grotesque Crowned by an Altar in a Small Pavillion
Anonymous, Italian, 16th century Italian
After Cornelis Bos Netherlandish
Not on view
Two thirds of a candelabra grotesque, copied after a print published by Cornelis Bos around 1540. The design is characterized by a fantastical architectural structure, placed on a pedestal with stairs. The structure is crowned by a sacrificial altar in a round pavillion. To the right of the candelabra is a female figure. On the lowest stair of the pedestal a vase is placed from which a second candelabra springs.
