Vases after the Antique

Designed and engraved by Enea Vico Italian

Not on view

Eleven plates from a series of Vases after the Antique, engraved and published by Enea Vico in 1543. The prints were later published again by Antonio Lafreri in a composite series of antique vases by Vico and similar prints executed by Agostino Veneziano in 1530-31. The current series appears to be a very early edition of the first state of these prints, predating the set illustrated in Miller 1999. The prints were originally part of an album in the collection of Hippolyte Destailleur, which was taken apart at the MMA and integrated into the exisiting collection.
