Terracotta jug

Cypriot

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

At the beginning of the Early Bronze Age, a major catastrophe in Anatolia caused the settlement on the island of refugees who brought with them new cultural ideas. The pottery of this period, also known as the Philia cultural phase after the site where it was first discovered, is very similar to that of Anatolia.
