Terracotta Nolan neck-amphora (jar)

Attributed to the manner of the Bowdoin Painter

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Obverse, Apollo with bow and deer
Reverse, woman

The subject is that of Apollo pursuing a woman. His attributes in this context are interesting, not least because they are also associated with his sister Artemis. The deer may emphasize his fleetness. The bow becomes more like that of Eros.
