Marble molding fragment from the Temple of Artemis at Sardis

Roman

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 160

The arrangement, scale, and character of the anthemion, egg-and-dart, and bead-and-reel moldings on this fragment correspond almost perfectly to the nearby doorjamb fragment (26.59.11). However, the direction of the foliage of the anthemion is slightly different, and consequently, this fragment likely should be assigned to another portal of the temple.
