Trumpet Call Harmonica

Manufacturer Hohner German

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 681

Since their invention in about 1830, harmonicas have been folk and novelty instruments. They come in a range of types, including chromatic, bass, tremolo, chord, and octave harmonicas. Sonic and visual novelty helped makers sell instruments. This "trumpet call" harmonica features trumpet bells to modify its timbre and attract attention.
