Fragment of a terracotta plaque

Greek, Cretan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Upper body of a youth in a long garment

The head illustrates, in almost exaggerated fashion, the so-called Daidalic style of the second half of the seventh century B.C. It is characterized by the stepped treatment of the hair and the large eye(s).
