  • Description

    The son of Lyonel Feininger, the American-born artist and master at the Bauhaus, Lux Feininger learned to photograph in an atmosphere of radical experimentation. The house he lived in was a two-family dwelling shared with Lucia and László Moholy-Nagy. This portrait of a fellow Bauhaus student was taken either on its roof or on a balcony of the same building. The abrupt foreshortening caused by the acute perspective makes Röseler's head balloon upward from tiny feet, emphasizing his self-absorption and his cool detachment from the world.
