Made in New York during World War I, when the import of French materials and styles was interrupted, this hat uses basic materials to produce an elegant and chic result. The felt body has been blocked into a simple but beautiful form. The use of very wide draped ribbon as the sole trimming provides a contrasting texture and gives a sense of richness. The ribbon is treated in a refined manner, with its seemingly casual knotting, streamer ends secured neatly under the brim, and carefully mediated volume so as to appear luxurious but not sloppy.
