Self-Guided Tours

Due to the high volume of daily programs in the Museum, advance registration is required for groups who plan to bring their own lecturer for a self-guided tour. Self-guided groups are limited to thirty-five people per lecturer, and the lecturer must reserve a lecturer's badge in advance of tour. Reserve a lecturer's badge by calling 212-570-3711 or emailing mettours@metmuseum.org.

Museum-Guided Tours

A one-hour guided tour led by a Museum lecturer is a wonderful way to enhance your group's visit. These guided tours provide an insider's view of the Museum and may be customized to focus on a specific highlight of the permanent collection or a particular exhibition. Popular topics include:

  • The Highlights Tour: An Introduction to the Met's Collection
  • Arts of Ancient Greece and Rome
  • Impressionism and Post-Impressionism
  • Fashion in Art
  • American Art
  • Arts of the Islamic World

See Curatorial Departments or Exhibitions to review other possible tour topics.

Museum-guided tours must be reserved at least two weeks in advance. One lecturer must be reserved for every thirty people. Multiple guides are available for an additional fee. Please contact Group Services (212-570-3711) to inquire about pricing for tours longer than one hour.

Groups of fewer than fifteen may reserve a tour and pay the minimum fee.

Tours are available in several languages, including French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
